Itchy Scalp Post Hair Transplant: Should I Be Concerned?
This question, from a member of our [tag]hair loss[/tag] social community and discussion forums, was answered by Coalition hair transplant surgeon Dr. William Lindsey:
I’m one month post-op and my donor and recipient areas are really itchy. I don’t scratch it. Just wondering how long that usually lasts.
Itching may be nothing, normal healing, or the beginning of hypertrophic scarring.
I tell our [tag]hair transplant[/tag] patients that they need to use vitamin E oil on the scar twice a day for 2 months. Now probably only 1/3 do. And I ask all of them, [tag]follicular unit strip surgery[/tag] ([tag]FUSS[/tag]) or [tag]follicular unit extraction[/tag] ([tag]FUE[/tag]) to roll in in a month so that I can check there scar as that’s when its usually itchy. Probably half show. But out of those, probably 2 or 3 a year need treatment for early hypertrophic scarring. And if you catch it early, you can almost always stop or reverse it.
Bottom line, I’d check with your [tag]hair restoration[/tag] physician and get his opinion now.
