Can Females Undergo Eyelash Transplantation with Body Hair Grafts (BHT)?
This question comes from a member of our [tag]hair loss[/tag] social community and discussion forums:
I’ve never been pleased with my eyelashes. I’ve always wanted longer, thicker lashes, and I’m wondering if an [tag]eyelash transplant[/tag] could help? I heard about a [tag]hair transplant[/tag] specialist who performs eyelash transplants with [tag]body hair grafts[/tag] ([tag]body hair transplantation[/tag]). Any information about this doctor?
[tag]Eyelash transplantation[/tag] is an option for women with sparse, short, or thin eyelashes. During an eyelash transplant, the physician extracts hair follicles and uses a surgical needle to thread them through the eyelid and into the eyelash region (edge of the lid). Most surgeons use scalp hair follicles. Scalp follicles, while natural and reliable, have much longer anagen or “growth cycles” than eyelash follicles. Therefore, scalp hair follicles transplanted in the eyelid need to be trimmed frequently. For some women, this is an issue. However, body hair transplant expert Dr. [tag]Sanusi Umar[/tag] believes he has a solution for this problem: using body hair grafts in eyelash transplantation.
Dr Umar realized leg hair follicles possess physical characteristics similar to eyelashes and have roughly equivalent anagen cycles. This means the transplanted leg hair follicles will grow to similar lengths as natural eyelashes. Leg hair follicles look natural in the eyelash region and do not require the same maintenance and trimming as scalp follicles.
