Transplanting Scalp Hair into the Chest Region?

When most [tag]hair loss[/tag] sufferers think about [tag]hair transplantation[/tag], the idea of removing [tag]follicular unit grafts[/tag] from the back of the head ([tag]universal donor region[/tag]) and implanting it into [tag]balding[/tag] regions of the scalp immediately comes to mind. However, it’s worth nothing that [tag]hair transplant surgery[/tag] is a fairly broad term, and simply refers to the idea of taking hair from one region of the body and “moving” it to another.

Because of this,  [tag]hair restoration surgeon[/tag]s are able to successfully transplant hair from the back of the scalp to areas such as the eyebrows, eyelashes, and facial hair areas when safe and appropriate for the patient. Additionally, certain [tag]hair transplant surgeons[/tag] even utilize body hair transplant units (hair taken from body regions like the chest, legs, and pubic regions) when the traditional donor supply is depleted.

It’s clear that hair restoration surgeons are able to augment areas of the scalp and facial regions with transplanted hair, but is it possible, or common, to take hair from the traditional donor region and actually implant it into different regions of the body, like the chest? In this case, Dr. Griffin explains that the patient suffered from an unsightly scar on his chest as the result of a prior surgery. Because the scarring was significant, chest hair would not grow at the site and the patient was self-conscious about removing his shirt. To fix this problem, Dr. Griffin carefully removed 253 follicular unit grafts via the traditional [tag]follicular unit transplantation[/tag] ([tag]FUT[/tag]) method, and implanted them into the chest region. Because he took careful care to recreate the natural pattern of the chest hair, the result should be quite significant when fully matured.
