I underwent a hair transplant procedure several weeks ago, and I was considering steroid injections into the strip scar (follicular unit transplant scar) to reduce excessive scarring. I found a plastic surgeon willing to perform the injections, but I’m wondering if this is recommended? Will injecting steroids into the post-operative FUT scar reduce scarring?
Others have asked this question before and in general, steroid injections used to minimize the potential of a thick or widened scar is minimal and not well-proven. That’s why giving steroid injections post-operatively is not normal operating procedure.
The final or ultimate size of hair transplant donor scar, or any scar for that matter, is dependent almost exclusively on the physiology of the person. That’s why the same exact surgery can be performed on 5 different patients but result in 5 different outcomes.
