[tag]Hair loss[/tag] sufferers will do anything to hide their [tag]baldness[/tag] from the world. While some sport the fancy [tag]comb over[/tag] look, others wear their favorite hats and head coverings.

Today, many hair loss sufferers have turned to topical concealers such as [tag]Toppik[/tag], [tag]Dermmatch[/tag], and [tag]Nanogen[/tag] to mask their baldness and create the illusion of a more lustrous head of hair. But how effective are these hair loss products? Do they effectively mask complete baldness or do they work better on consumers with [tag]thinning hair[/tag]? Will [tag]concealers[/tag] hold up under harsh weather conditions and/or when swimming?

Members of our community were recently discussing the effectiveness of Toppik and other topical concealers on our forum. You are encouraged to join in the discussion to read what others are saying and offer your input.

  • TRY CHEAP EYE SHADOW!

I'm a 62-year-old woman with thinning hair. I also color my hair a very, very dark brown (almost black) that produces a high contrast between the white scalp and the dark hair.

I started using Rita Hazan Root Concealer to both color emerging gray roots and tone down my scalp. But it is expensive: $22-$35 depending where you buy it, and that's for a 1 oz. can. I started researching other scalp and roots concealers but they were all pretty expansive.

I just started using matt eye shadow instead. I apply it to my scalp and roots with a medium size makeup brush. It does make the hair look a little chalky, but I have short curly hair and the base of the hairs are for the most part hidden. The product washes out of the hair fine. I have dark pillow cases, so I can't comment on that, but the powder is quite loose and I have to wipe off the sink afterward. It also comes off on my hands if I touch my hair or scalp.

But so far I'm very happy with the product. It's Jordana matt eye shadow; I'm using #01 Total Blackout. It doesn't have glittery bits like most black eye shadows. And the price is right: $1.99 for .58 oz.

My husband can't kiss the top of my head anymore, but I don't have to keep fluffing my hair to hide the bald spots.

I'll report on any problems with the product.
