Hair Transplant Mega Sessions

Are there any [tag]hair transplant[/tag]  doctors in North America that routinely do 4500 – 5000+ [tag]follicular unit grafts[/tag] in one session?

The question of single mega-sessions  comes up a lot on our [tag]hair restoration[/tag] discussion forums.   The danger of this question is that typically the skill level of the [tag]hair transplant doctor[/tag] comes into question.  

Most of our coalition doctors  do megasessions of 3000 follicular unit grafts on a regular basis.

However, doing a 4500-5000 megasession is hardly routine for any [tag]hair transplant physician[/tag].   Of course it’s possible, but there are a number of variables that come into play.   Below are a few:

• Skill level of the  hair transplant doctor
• Size of the  staff of the [tag]hair transplant clinic[/tag]  
• Donor [tag]hair density[/tag] of the patient
• [tag]Donor laxity[/tag] of the patient
• Philosophy of the [tag]hair transplant surgeon[/tag]

Certainly as you can see above, the skill level of the physician certainly plays a significant role – however, one must be careful not to draw false conclusions about a hair transplant doctor’s level of ability if they typically do smaller sessions.  

On the flip side – one must be careful about hair transplant doctors who set a maximum limit of grafts he/she will extract as a general rule – especially those 2000 grafts and under.   This does not not necessarily mean they are a poor surgeon however, it does suggest that they are limited in their ability to provide state of the art [tag]hair transplantation[/tag].  

Personally, I have a tendency to lean toward the larger single sessions personally, but a case can be made for subsequent smaller sessions.

If you are looking for a large megasession because you have a significant amount of [tag]hair loss[/tag] however, my advice would be to search for and view before/after photos of  [tag]hair transplant patients[/tag] who have had these types of sessions.   Find a hair transplant physician that consistently impresses you and then consult with them.   I recommend at least 3 consultations.   Just keep in mind that just because patient X received 5000 grafts doesn’t mean that you will have the same donor characteristics to be able to achieve the same numbers.
