It has been 10 weeks since my procedure and my donor area still scabs up, is tender, and is still experiencing some numbness. Is this normal?
At only 10 weeks post op from a [tag]hair transplant[/tag], it is normal for the [tag]donor area[/tag] (the sides and back of your head where the tissue with hair follicles was removed) to be a little tender and to experience some numbness. The donor area takes some time to fully heal. This typically lasts for a few weeks to several months after a hair transplant.
Regarding scabbing at 10 weeks post op, it could be due to hairs trying to grow through the [tag]donor scar[/tag]. This is especially common if the [tag]trichophytic[/tag] closure technique was used when one side of wound is overlapped over the other to minimize the appearance of the scar.
Keep in mind that whereas some tenderness, scabbing, and redness can be considered normal, any of this in the extreme could be the signs of an infection. I advise you to consult your hair transplant doctor if you have an serious concerns.
