Testing Hair Transplant Donor Hair for Miniaturization
This insightful article was written by [tag]hair loss[/tag] physician Dr. Carlos Wesley, who is a member of the Coalition of Independent Hair Restoration Physicians.
Is there a way to know whether your [tag]hair transplant[/tag] donor is miniaturized or not? I’m 22 and planning to get [tag]follicular unit extraction[/tag] ([tag]FUE[/tag]) but I would rather get the miniaturization exam done first before proceeding?
There are a number of methods to evaluate hair characteristics. Any physician performing surgical [tag]hair restoration[/tag] likely has something to accurately analyze hair quality in order to determine a patient’s candidacy. There are instruments such as the Folliscope, the FotoFinder device, the Dermatoscope, etc. A magnified lens allows for fairly accurate analysis.
If you happen to have time on your hands, you can read the chapter I authored in the Hair Transplantation textbook called “Enhanced Patient Selection: The Folliscope”.
