Hair Transplant Surgeon Dr. Sanusi Umar Interviewed by New York Times about His Breakthrough Body Hair Transplantation (BHT)Mon 27 Feb 2012
Recently, Dr. Sanusi Umar of Redondo Beach, California, who is recommended on the Hair Transplant Network was interviewed by the New York Times for his leading role in innovating and implementing the use of leg hair in the refinement of hairline reconstruction in hair restoration.
Dr. Umar is world renowned and performs state of the art follicular unit extraction (FUE) hair transplant surgery and is arguably the world’s foremost expert in BHT (body hair transplantation).
In the recent New York Times article entitled, A New Approach to Treating Hair Loss, Dr. Umar discusses a report he published in the The Archives of Dermatology on leg hair use in the refinement of hairlines. You can also read more about it by visiting the Q&A Blog article “Finding Value in Using Leg Hair for Hair Transplant Repair Surgery by Dr. Sanusu Umar“. The Archives of Dermatology is a publication of the Journal of the American Medical Association (JAMA) and is considered, together with the Journal of Investigative Dermatology, the most respected dermatology journal in the world.
In the interview, Dr. Umar asserts that leg hair is able to produce a finer and more natural appearance in the hairline than hair harvested from the permanent donor zone at the rear and sides of the head: “If you look at a natural hairline, it’s very soft, like baby hair.” “The back of the head is where you find the thickest hair on the head. If you take that hair and use it in the hairline, it can end up looking harsh and pluggy, because the hair is too thick.”
It’s important to note that not all patients are candidates for body hair transplantation. However, hair loss suffering men and women for whom traditional hair transplants are not an option are encouraged to consult with Dr. Umar about this revolutionary technique.
