What is Causing My Excessive Hair Loss?
Category: Causes of Hair Loss , Common Questions , General Hair Loss TopicsI am turning 18 years old this year and currently a student. 2 months ago, I started to realize that I have excessive loss of hair. I’ve also noticed that whenever I scratch my hair, a white yellowish oily small little “rice” will fall and it’s attached to the root of my hair. Strands of hair dropped faster after I’ve washed my hair. Am I suffering from some kind of hair loss problem? Please do give me a reply as I am only 18 this year and it is embarrassing to be balding at this age. Thank you.
I know how hard it can be to start losing your hair at such a young age. I was hit with it myself at the age of 21.
What causes hair loss varies from person to person. Though the most common cause is androgenic alopecia (male pattern baldness), other factors including scalp conditions such as seborrehic dermatitis or psoriasis can cause this.
You mentioned scratching your head – does your scalp itch? Do you have excessive dandruff or any other kind of scalp condition that you are aware of?
I encourage you to consult with a dermatologist or hair loss doctor who can examine your scalp and perform other tests to discover the reason. Only then can a proper treatment be recommended.

I have exactly the same problem and this is the first time I actually saw it described correctly. What was your solution? I am planning to visit a doctor as well.

Thanks for your comment. Visiting a dermatologist or hair loss doctor is the best first step you ought to take – since before one can recommend an appropriate treatment, the cause must be found.
A solution might be as simple as treating a dandruff problem or scalp condition, or if it’s male pattern baldness, though there is no cure, treatment options such as Propecia and Rogaine may be helpful. Keep us posted on what you find out from your physician.

I was in your situation and was depressed. I tried many ways to stop my hair loss but all in vain. I then did extensive research and tried Generic Propecia and was amazed by the results. Now i dun have hair fall anymore :)
I am happy and satisfied with the results.
