Hair Loss News

natural hairline hair transplant photoHair transplant patients are attracted to today’s surgical hair restoration because not only is it proven to grow hair in completely bald areas, but in the right surgical hands it can be so natural that even hairstylists can’t detect the result. Hair transplantation has come a long way since the days of old plugs, but just how natural are they? Can today’s hair transplants be spotted or do they blend naturally with the rest of a patient’s remaining hair?

In this hair loss discussion thread, members of our community share their own personal hair loss stories and how surgical hair restoration has changed their lives. You are encouraged to read others and share your own experience with hair replacement surgery.

Yes, while we breathe, it seems the FDA is up to dirty business. People say America is the land of the free, I think not. Companies, Wall street, etc. run America today.  They have much power and the pharmaceutical companies control the FDA.  It is not independent like it once was.  They do not have not your interests at heart, but profit is king, nothing else matters to these Godless peoples.  See below example of FDA protecting their profits

“Recently, the FDA sent out a wave of intimidating warning letters to nutritional supplement companies, threatening them with seizure of their products and criminal prosecutions if they dare mention H1N1 Influenza (Swine Flu) in conjunction with their anti-viral products. This censorship campaign is clearly an effort to wipe clean common knowledge about medicinal herbs from the minds of the People, forcing them to be dependent on vaccines, pharmaceuticals and conventional health “authorities” who already admit their vaccines won’t work for future mutations of influenza.”

This fascist-like corporate state is America today, but is out of sight of most.  I work with natural medcine and I feel this and pray to God that darkness does not win.

Though I need more information to draw any kind of real conclusion, I’m not actually not so sure I agree and I’ll tell you why.

Nutritional supplement companies are notorious for marketing their products as “all natural” alternatives to proven medications however, in many cases (such as in treating hair loss), there’s no proof of efficacy.  They are also not regulated like the FDA.

Last year, The Hair Transplant Network hosted regular live chat sessions for our members to discuss “hot topic” hair loss issues real time with great success. To see the previous chat topics discussed, member involvement, and to learn how to use our chat feature, click here.

Though the chat rooms are always open to all hair loss forum members, we’ve found that by scheduling regular times for meeting, more members participate, including knowledgeable hair transplant patients and hair restoration physicians.

At the request of a few of our members, we are considering scheduling a live chat session trial to see who’s genuinely interested. You are encouraged to express your interest on this hair loss discussion forum thread. Listing days and times most convenient for you will be helpful in making a decision on when we host it. We look forward to seeing you on the forum and in live chat.

At the Hair Transplant Network, patients have the final say on which hair transplant physicians are recommended by our community. Thus, we would appreciate your input in considering one of our recommended surgeons for Coalition membership.

Dr. Carman has impressed our patient community with his dedication to providing ultra refined follicular unit hair transplantation and devotion to patient education since he was approved for recommendation on the Hair Transplant Network in August of 2008 (click here to view his recommendation). Thus, given his proven track record of producing excellent results, he is being considered for membership in the Coalition of Independent Hair Restoration Physicians.

In addition to gathering actual patient experiences, we often visit the clinics to meet patients in person and observe the surgical techniques (see the photos and highlights from dozens of visits). In June of 2008, Pat Hennessey visited Dr. Carman’s clinic in La Jolla and observed his ultra refined technique. To see highlights from Pat’s visit, view “Visit to Dr. Carman’s Clinic in La Jolla, CA

We invite you to view his work and credentials and give your input regarding Dr. Carman’s potential Coalition membership. To view this topic, visit “Potential Coalition Membership for Dr. Timothy Carman”.

Men and women with hair loss are rightfully excited by the prospect of being able to restore a natural looking head of hair with surgical hair restoration. However, understanding the limitations and risks of hair transplant surgery is just as important as counting its benefits. One important but controversial topic worth discussing is hair transplant dense packing, which enables the appearance of a thicker, fuller head of hair.

Though most surgeons agree that a certain level of dense packing is appropriate in some patients, not everyone requires large quantities of hair packed in a single area. Whether or not a balding man or woman is eligible for and how much dense packing is appropriate largely depends on the patient’s current and risk of future hair loss, donor hair availability, long term hair restoration goals, and what can realistically be accomplished.

A few hair replacement clinics have made claims that they can pack up to 70, 80, and even 100 follicular unit grafts (hairs as they occur naturally in the scalp) per square centimeter (FU/cm2). And though men and women  suffering from baldness are often intrigued by a physician’s ability to pack hair closely together due to dreams of recovering a full head of hair, too much dense packing might inhibit healthy hair regrowth.

Non-surgical hair loss solutions and hair transplant surgery can be great, but neither are a cure for hair loss. Balding men and women ought to explore and consider all the available treatments carefully and work with a leading hair restoration doctor to develop a long term and realistic hair restoration plan.

Though the dream of full lustrous locks dance through our heads, developing realistic expectations as to what can realistically be accomplished is vital. Below you will find answers to common questions on what can realistically be accomplished with today’s treatments. You can also ask your own questions and get answers on our hair restoration forum or by contacting us privately.

Given the state of today’s current economy, a few members of our hair loss forum have asked if the apparent economic recession is preventing people from proceeding with hair transplant surgery. While a few patients have expressed concern over their own finances and are reluctant to spend any money, others are taking the plunge and restoring their hair with surgical hair restoration.

Overall, those considering hair restoration surgery need to develop realistic expectations and a long term hair restoration plan with a leading hair loss surgeon. This should include sound financial planning and an assurance you can commit to the plan.

You are encouraged to share your input on how financial planning is an important part of surgical hair replacement on this thread.

Before recommending a treatment, balding men and women must discover what’s causing their hair loss. In most cases, hair loss is due to genetics, causing hair to be vulnerable to the male hormone dihydrotestosterone (DHT). Though DHT is more prominent in men, it’s also found in women and still the number 1 cause of baldness in the world. However, other conditions can contribute to or even cause non-genetic hair loss.

Due to promotional propaganda and misinformation spread through the internet, differentiating fact from fiction can be difficult. Below, we expose the legends and distinguish what can and cannot contribute to or cause thinning hair.

Stress Causes Hair Loss: If you ask just about everyone, most would tell you that stress can cause you to go bald. Read this article to learn whether or not there is any truth to this highly popular belief.

Daily Hair Washing and Hair Loss: Due to the amount of hair men and women find in the shower, some have conjectured that daily washing can cause your hair to thin. Learn if there is any truth to this concern.

Accutane Acne Treatment and Baldness: Learn why Accutane treatment for acne might be detrimental to your hair.

Hair Pulling, Styling, and Hair Loss: Not everyone pulls their own hair out. However, excessive hair pulling or styling can be the cause of isolated balding. Learn why and whether or not this is temporary or permanent.

With proper preparation for future hair loss, men and women with minimal thinning hair can often achieve high levels of both fullness and hair density in a single hair transplant procedure. However, those with extensive baldness are often left dreaming of the long lustrous locks they wore proudly during their high school days.

But there is hope for those who are bald. Though there is a limited donor hair supply in all patients, many leading hair restoration physicians can help bald patients re-create a natural looking mature hairline and a portion of the hair on top of their head.

On this hair loss discussion forum thread, members discuss what can realistically be accomplished in patients with extensive baldness and whether or not it will satisfy them. You are encouraged to share your experience and offer your input on this thread.
