Whatever age a guy starts losing his hair, once he comes to grips to what is going on he will at least once consider just shaving the area clean. For some guys, this is a great idea. Some guys can certainly get away with the whole “clean-shaven look” better than others. Confidence has lots to do with pulling this look off, too. No matter what is on your head, confidence is always going to be a large consideration in how others view you. Letting the hair do as it may is another option. After all, plenty of guys do it for one reason or another. Some contend that hair just isn’t important enough to worry too much about. Some just don’t want to deal with the hassle of finding the “right” hair loss treatments that are available. With all of the scams and snake oil salesmen in the industry, who can blame them?
No matter what the reason, going bald gracefully takes guts. It takes even more guts if the guy doing it is relatively young. However, it’s no picnic for any guy at any age, especially if he is surrounded by other guys his age that have plenty of hair left.
There are obvious positives to going bald gracefully. One of which include money. No matter how economical the treatments that a hair loss sufferer selects are, they are still going to cost money. No matter how insignificant, it is still going to have some monetary consequence. Guys that have looked around at hair regrowth treatments have found that more times than not, treatments are not cheap.

Propecia (Finasteride) can help hair loss sufferers maintain their hair and sometimes even help them grow back hair they have lost. Hair regrowth should be considered a bonus, however, as Propecia is primarily a “maintenance” drug, enabling the user to stave off further loss and thickening wilting and dying hairs ravaged by DHT.
This chart illustrates hair counts maintained by men using Propecia over a span of 5 years compared to users taking a placebo (sugar pill) and users taking a combination of Propecia and placebo.
The tested groups are:
- Users that took only Propecia for 5 years
- Users that took a placebo for 1 year then Propecia for 4 years
- Users that took Propecia for 1 year, a placebo for 1 year, and Propecia for 3 years
- Users that took a placebo for 5 years.
The study shows that Propecia users consistently maintained higher hair counts using Propecia than with the placebo. The users that toggled between the two are clearly shown as having higher hair counts while using Propecia than while using the placebo when compared to the baseline hair count.

If you live in the United States you need a prescription to obtain Propecia, the only pill FDA-approved for hair loss. Many men take
comfort that they can stave off future loss and, in some cases, regrow some of their lost hair by taking Propecia.
See how Propecia works to combat hair loss.
But did you know that you can save money on Propecia? It’s true. But you’ll have to get another drug to do it.
First things first: Propecia is composed of 1mg of the active ingredient finasteride, a drug originally marketed by Merck for the treatment of BPH (benign prostatic hyperblasia). For cases of BPH, physicians prescribe Proscar - which is also finasteride - in a 5 mg pill.
Propecia and Proscar are the same thing, just in two different doses.
The average cost of Propecia per month is around $70 USD for 30 pills, which will last 30 days. One can obtain Proscar from the same pharmacy in the U.S. for around $35 for 10 pills, which will last 40 days.
But wait…that math doesn’t add up…or does it? Well, no. You see, even though Proscar is 5 mg of finasteride while Propecia is only 1 mg the pill itself isn’t five times as large. As a matter of fact, the two pills are actually pretty similar in size. The Proscar is only a little bit bigger. This is because all pills have lots of filler of inactive ingredients in them that make up the majority of their size.
